Obituary for Douglas Noah Mackley

Douglas Noah Mackley, 83, passed away on August 3, 2022. He was born January 22, 1939, in Bison, KS to David and Ella (Smith) Mackley. He was the sixth out of eleven children.

Doug spent many of his early years growing up in Russell Springs, KS, where he attended school. In 1956, he joined the US Navy and married the love of his life, Sharon R. Washburn. They began their life together in Key West, FL where he was stationed in the Navy before returning to Winona, KS, to raise their family.

With a passion for farming, Doug took pride in instilling that love into his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In the early years, he also ran Mackley Trucking alongside his farming operation.

Doug was an avid supporter of Logan County. He was never one to shy away from donating his time and effort to see the communities succeed. He was a member of the Winona School Board, Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Oakley Country Club, and was a Logan County Commissioner.

Doug and Sharon loved spending time with their children, grandchildren, and friends. Whether it was going to the horse races, taking golf trips, finding a craps table while Sharon played the slots, flying his plane, or simply playing cards, Doug was always up for a good time.

Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon, both parents, siblings Glenn, Dorothy, and Rosetta, grandsons Caton, Dalton, and Jesse, granddaughter Tasha, and great grandson Talon. He is survived by his children Kathy Mackley (Vernon, TX), Bob and Tracee Mackley (Colby, KS), Denny and Dayna Mackley (Winona, KS), and Jeff and Sherri Mackley (Winona, KS), sisters-in-law Lynne Scott (Athens, TX) and Joyce Atkinson (Wichita, KS), niece Glenda Schaffer (Hoxie, KS), as well as 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and many friends he considered family.

The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Monday, August 8, 2022, at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley, KS. A graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at the Winona Cemetery, Winona, KS.
