Obituary for Kevin Jerome Ryan

Kevin Jerome Ryan, 61, of Colby, died Monday, October 11, 2021, at Swedish Medical Center, Englewood, CO. He was born June 13, 1960, in Colby, KS to Dennis and Frances (Albers) Ryan. Kevin graduated from Oakley High School in 1978 and then attended Goodland Vo-Tech for 2 years in the Electric Program. In 1985 Kevin joined the National Guard and was part of the 170th Maintenance Company. He served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm and was active duty from 1991 to 1994. Kevin worked at many area elevators and drove truck locally. Kevin was united in marriage with Elda Kear in 1985, and to this union two children were born.

In his free time, Kevin enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf, but his favorite thing to do was spend time with his family and play with his grandkids. Much of his time spent in the woods was with his family and friends. He accompanied many of his family on their first hunts and loved seeing them enjoy the outdoors as he did. During high school Kevin wrestled and ran track, finishing first at state track in the 4 x 100 relay his senior year. He coached baseball and was always involved in his children's activities. More recently he enjoyed golfing with friends and family. He was the first to show up to help anyone in need and had a knack for helping fix just about anything. He loved his family never missed an opportunity to spend time with his kids, grandkids, and others that called him grandpa. He was always a welcoming face to any family gathering or event. Family meant everything to him.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Denny Ryan and grandparents, Thomas and Clara Ryan, and Joseph C. and Walburga Albers.

He is survived by his wife, Elda, of the home; children, Josh (Michelle) Ryan, Overland Park, KS and Kayla (Travis) Patzner, Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Leah and Parker Ryan; mother Frances Ryan, Colby KS; siblings, Angie (Jack) Myers, Alan (Sherri) Ryan, Cynthia (Frank) DeRee, Monique (Thomas) Leavitt, Maureen (Thomas) Bruggemen, Paula (Butch) Burris, Phillip (Alaina) Ryan and Sharon Ryan.
