Obituary for Stanley Martin Faimon
Stanley Martin Faimon, beloved father and farmer, passed away, January 27th, 2022, at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital, in Lincoln, NE, after a hard fight with Leukemia. At the ripe age of 63, he would joke that he was, "Sick and tired of being sick and tired," and "it was time to go."
He was born on November 12th, 1958, in Stratton, NE, to Stanley and Margaret (Pochop) Faimon. As the youngest of four children, his siblings, Marian Petersen, of Lincoln, NE, Angela Faimon, of Omaha, NE and David (Barbara) Faimon, of Grand Island, NE, would tell you his favorite food was cereal, with or without milk, and his favorite pastimes included bugging his sisters and brother along with, "being the baby".
Stan told many stories of his childhood, like skipping kindergarten with his old pal, Kent Lorens, just to name a favorite.
Stan graduated Stratton High School in 1977 and was an active member of choir, track, basketball, and football. The medals and ribbons he proudly won can be found among his prized possessions, in his office at home. After high school Stan attended Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, NE to pursue his childhood dream of being a farmer (after becoming an astronaut fell through).
He met the love of his life at a funeral of all places and married his beloved wife, Becky (Marintzer) Faimon, on November 24th, 1984, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, in Herndon, KS. Becky was five years older than Stan and his favorite joke was, "She robbed the cradle and found out crime don't pay!"
Stan was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Heather Rae Faimon, of Hastings, NE, and Muriel Faimon, of Stratton, NE. The joy that fatherhood brought him was obvious in the way he boasted of their successes and achievements. As time passed the love for his children grew into the love for his grandchildren, Silas (George of the Jungle), Gabriel (Gabey Baby), Lilith (Miss Foof) and soon to be number four.
Throughout his life, and especially in his later years, Stan enjoyed fishing in the summer and shooting deer with his fall hunting buddies that became lifelong friends. He proudly pledged his faith through acolyting and song leading in church, as well as supporting his parish priest in any way possible. As a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, and a recovering alcoholic, Stan devoted countless hours to helping others find and sustain sobriety as he had. When ever asked how long he had been sober, he would always reply, "It's one day at a time."
Stan always stressed the importance of giving blood and made many donations over his life. Little would he know how many donations he himself would receive in his fight against Leukemia. Although there were times of extreme discomfort and pain Stan endured every infusion, surgery and chemo treatment with his happy go-lucky charm and positive attitude. He always had a kind smile for his nurses and an "I love you," for his, "Darling" Becky. At his last moments he was at peace, praying the rosary, and holding his wife's hand. He passed away in comfort and in prayer.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and is survived by his wife, two daughters, three (almost four) grandchildren and his two sisters and brother along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held Friday, February 4th, 2022, at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stratton, NE, with visitation at 9:00 am, rosary at 10:00 am, Mass at 10:30 am, and burial services to follow at Saint John’s Cemetery, Atwood, KS.
