Obituary for Viola R. Richmeier (Dinkel)

Viola R. (Dinkel) Richmeier, 90, of Grinnell, died Friday, February 11, 2022, at the Gove County Medical Center, in Quinter, KS. She was born July 7, 1931, on the family farm south of Victoria, KS, to Frank M. and Rosa (Hertel) Dinkel. She was raised on the farm and attended school in Victoria.

On April 13, 1955, Viola married Leo Francis Richmeier, in Victoria. During their first year of marriage, they lived on a farm southeast of Park, KS. They then moved to a farm southwest of Grinnell, KS. During the nine years they lived there, they welcomed their first three sons. In 1965, they moved to the farm south of Grinnell, where their youngest son was born.

Viola was a dairy woman, a farmer and rancher. She was very good at this and worked very hard to keep the farm running. This past fall she planted her last wheat crop.

Viola was well known for her homemade angel food cake that she took to many functions and her swatzenberry kuchen.

Viola was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella and Altar Society, all of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo; brothers, Hilarius, Clarence, Edward and George; sisters, Julitta Dechant, Bertha Prewo, Regina Dechant, Sr. Francis Rose Dinkel C.S.A., Irene Scruggs, Melinda Griebel, Sr. Paul Ann Dinkel C.S.A. and Rita Rohr and infant siblings Fidelis and Viola Mary Dinkel.

She is survived by her sons, Thomas and wife Karen (McClain), of Wickenburg, AZ, Edwin and wife Una (Martin), of Quinter, KS, John, of Grinnell and Leo of Grinnell; grandsons, Patrick Richmeier, of Quinter, Randy and wife Abigail (Rohr), of Hays, KS; and siblings, Fr. Harvey Dinkel OFM Cap, of Victoria, KS and Mary Younker, of Hays.

Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m., with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2022, at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center, Grinnell. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2022, at the Immaculate Conception Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
